Metformin, a drug for diabetes, is currently in every sample of drinking water worldwide. The concentration of Metformin in these samples are up to 50% above environmental safety standards. Metformin is the most widely prescribed drug in the world. It suppresses glucose production in the liver. Since we do not metabolize Metformin, it leaves the body unaltered, entering world wide water sources and oceans within 24 hours.

  To date, the Environmental Protection Agency does not regulate pharmaceuticals in our drinking water or environment. In Lake Michigan, alone, 32 pharmaceuticals and personal products were present in the water. Fourteen of these measured high to medium concentrations of risk to the environment. Metformin is present 3 kilometers from the shores. The sediment around Lake Michigan contains 30 of the 32 pharmaceuticals and personal care products found in the lake.

  Metformin and many other pharmaceuticals leave water treatment plants unchanged. They do not degrade over time. These drugs pollute all of our waterways, seawater, and drinking water. They are not easy to detect and are projected to increase 5% annually for at least 5 years.

  Some drugs degrade into more toxic compounds. Effexor degrades into a different anti-depressant, Pristiq.

  Currently, the E.P.A. lists 8 hormones and 1 antibiotic drugs as possibly making water unsafe in our environment. Metformin was not believed to be an endocrine disruptor. However, Rebecca Klaper, University of Wisconsin and Milwaukee, found male minnows exposed to Metformin develop female gonads, weigh less, and produce fewer offspring. Metformin is now considered by researchers to be 1 of the drugs that cause major ecological consequences that we cannot change.

Centrifuge separated coconut oil, made from fresh, virgin coconut milk , is a highly nutritious food and topical skincare product. However, it is a saturated fat with high caloric value. Overweight people and those who modify their fat consumption for a variety of reasons, should use it in moderation. Low to moderate consumption of 1-2 tablespoons daily is acceptable for most folks and can help burn an extra 5% of calories ingested. More is not necessarily better. Alzheimer's and epileptic sufferers can benefit from larger doses, but may need to adjust their diet to with more bulk to avoid constipation. Those with an allergy to tree nuts are cautioned to use coconut products sparingly.

As a light moisturizer and skin softener, coconut oil can be enjoyed by those who are not acne prone, or do not have very dry skin. Coconut oil can clog pores and doesn't help those with very dry skin. Marula oil is better for these symptoms as a topical product. Great question!  No, essences and essential oils have different properties when grown and produced in different climates and terrains.Essences and Essential oils may have different qualities when grown in different terrains and climates. The amount of sunshine, rain, humidity and altitude may activate different chemicals in plants. Some may be stronger than others. The soil composition and Ph also affect the chemical and subtle properties in plants. The availability of sunshine, rain and nitrogen from lightening strikes catalyzes  the potency of plants.

When and how plants are harvested and cared for also make a difference in potency and quality. The time of day for harvesting makes a difference. For example, roses are harvested before noon, most often in the spring. Neroli is harvested before the buds are open. Rosemary, sage, thyme and helichyssum are most potent harvested in the heat of summer afternoons. Most plants become more potent with heat and pruning or cutting, but too much heat and low rainfall require more compassionate care. In north Texas, I do not harvest in August because it is too hot and dry. I also don't harvest right after a rain to avoid the spread of fungal and viral disease. I also leave some blooms for bees and beneficial insects to thrive. Hand picking  blooms and plants do no damage. I distill with glass to produce the highest quality products.

We can enjoy quality essences and essential oils in tune with the environment. Many plants producing essential oils and essences are endangered from over production. Awareness of the environment is vital for the continuation and availability of healing plants. We must also benefit the plants we encounter. We all heal together, encouraging different properties and information from the plants we encounter.

A recent study released in Nature research publication   found emulsifiers added to processed foods can inflame intestinal mucous membranes. The emulsifier studied included polysorbate 80, carboxymethylcellulose. Initial results indicate these and possibly other emulsifiers in packaged food can increase inflammatory bowel, metabolic syndrome, obesity and more inflammatory disease.

Regulatory agencies recognize most food additives as generally safe, only testing for cancer or immediate toxic symptoms and toxicity. There is very little information available to the public about food additives. Research was led by Andrew Gewirtz at Georgia State University.

The World Health Organization, through it's International Agency for Cancer Research, has recently concluded Roundup is "probably carcinogenic to humans". Roundup is a widely used herbicide manufactured by Monsanto. Of course, Monsanto is disputing the March 20 ,2015 assessment published in the Lancet Oncol. 2015 issue. The World Health Organization's research agency found limited evidence of non Hodgkin lymphoma in humans. Lab animals are also subject to cancer from exposure. Monsanto claims  the Researchers selectively chose studies to suggest Roundup is carcinogenic to animals and people. Roundup is designed to work with genetically modified crops, such as corn and soy. It's use in agriculture is worldwide.

A study at the University of Queensland, Australia has developed ultrasound methods that reduce or remove amyloid plaque in lab mice with Alzheimer's. There were 5 treatments in 6 weeks, resulting in 56% less plaque than untreated mice. The treated mice also regained memory for visual cues and familiar objects.. Researchers believe that ultrasound opened the blood brain barrier, activating microlgia immune cells in the brain to dissolve plaque.These experiments may lead to human trials, hopefully resulting in similar success without causing damage.

The E.P.A.has found that the 41% of tetracycline fed to livestock alone has resulted in a detrimental environmental accumulation in water supplies and soil. The global consequences are frightening because tetracycline drugs reduce mitochondrial function and cellular energy.Even small doses inhibit mitochondrial , nuclear protein expression and cellular respiration in plants and animals tested. Tetracycline uses gene expression control to reduce infectious processes. Unfortunately, it effects all cells causing developmental delays, reduced respiration and more stress on the cellular level.

Every organism relies on mitochondrial translation to produce energy. For example, there is more mitochondria in the guts than billions of good bacteria. Mitochondria is the catalyst that produces energy for all digestive  and bodily processes. The brain uses the most mitochondria. We do not normally produce more mitochondria to replace cells damaged by decreased oxygen intake and protein expression. The body requires this fuel to work efficiently, or at all. Taking prescription tetracycline can also damage mitochondria in the same way it hurts plants and animals. California, producing 90% of the U.S. strawberry crop, established stricter rules for chloropicrin. Chloropicrin is a toxic soil fumigant injected into the groun to kill insects. This is done before the strawberries are planted.

Chloropicrin is a dangerous fumigant, irritating the eyes and respiratory tract. California restricts the area and use of the crop to protect workers and nearby residents. The restrictions are more protective than the government.

The buffer zone is now 25 to 100 ft from residents. Application is limited to 40-60 acres daily. The larger numbers reflect tarp usage to limit drift.

Healthy environment activists are petitioning that chlorpicrin be phased out by 2020. They believe rural residents and school aged children, near the strawberry farms, continue to be adversely affected by chloropicrin fumigant.
