How to Create Floral Essential Oil Blends
Aromatherapy is designed to gather all of our senses into the present moment. It initiates a change in mood or stress management. We can feel attractive, yet complete in ourselves.
When creating a blend, decide which middle (heart) essences you want to be dominant. For example: Use 15 drops of heart notes in 1 oz. of a good carrier oil such as jojoba.
For example:
Floral scents include jasmine, tuberose, magnolia, ylang extra, helichrysum, linden blossom, osmanthus and rose. The rose floral scents include, Bulgarian, Moracin, Turkish and Indian. The rose family includes rose geranium, geranium and palmarosa.
Once you have chosen the heart aromas, consider which bass (low) notes will accent the blend. Florals blend well with balsamic base notes: hint of vanilla, Peru balsam, tonka bean, benzoin styrax, labdanum.
Resinous (light aromatic) base notes, such as frankincense, myrrh, or woodsy aromas, cypress, sandalwood or rosewood. Frankincense, myrrh and sandalwood blend well with all essential oils!
Start your blend by selecting a base note or trio of base notes. Add a total of 6 drops to your carrier oil. Immediately add 15 drops total of your selected floral aromas. Rose or jasmine blend well with all essential oils!
Complete your blend with a total of 9 drops of your head (top) essential oils. Bergamot and lime blend well with all essential oils. Citrus, cardamom, black pepper, nutmeg, holy basil spearmint and lavender are also good choices.
