Teatree, Melaleuca is used commercially in hair shampoos. Historically, Australian natives used the leaves to reduce inflammation and fungus, and to help reduce inflammation and acne. It became commercially popular without scientific evidence.
Tea tree, like lavender essential oils, have estrogenic properties. They are not safe for pregnant, nursing or males under 25 years old. It can adversely affect male and female hormones at any age. It is not recommended for pregnant or nursing mothers and children under 10.
Tree tea has a very camphorous aroma with a cooling mint sensation as an after effect. The aroma over- powers others in a blend, but can be used with citrus, peppermint and eucalyptus.
