Aromatherapy for Addiction

Aromatherapy for Cravings and Addiction

by Dr. Judy Griffin

Aromatherapy for cravings and addiction is a safe, nontoxic, complimentary therapy that can reduce symptoms and help correct imbalances. Over 22.5 million Americans suffer from chemical addictions, with up to a 90% relapse rate from conventional treatment. Aromatherapy for any type of craving and addiction quickly begins to help balance unique brain chemistry patterns. The pure organic essential oils and Petite Fleur Essences in Cravings are inhaled , reach the brain in 1/100 of a second, affecting hormone and neuro-chemical production encouraging the body’s self healing mechanisms to restore sensitivity and a feeling of normalcy. Inhalation of Cravings aromatherapy activates the lungs, circulating throughout the bloodstream, quickly affecting every organ and function.

Cravings and Addiction can also be perceived as pain patterns, caused by the brain’s lack of neuro-chemicals, or the imbalance of neurotransmission. People use foods, drugs and chemicals to feel some sense of normalcy. Under-active brain chemistry, from inherited or environmental conditions, affects the prefrontal cortex. This affects the reward and pleasure part of brain chemistry. “Reward deficiency syndrome,” is believed to be caused by low dopamine, one of the four major neurotransmitters originating from the brain.   Stimulants cause a surge of dopamine and a feeling of temporary pleasure. Cravings aromatherapy blend (www.aromahealthtexas.com) is successfully used in hospitals and clinics to help reduce the need for repetitive stimulation. SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) brain scans show indention-like holes in the brains of low dopamine individuals. Cravings is inhaled and worn to help blood flow and subsequent neurotransmitter activity. According to Dr. Marvin Sponaugle, M.D. , those who inherit low dopamine activity in the brain are more likely to become addictive, Dr. Sponaugle is a leading anesthesiologist who successfully treats addiction and many illnesses related to an imbalance of neuro-chemicals, hormones, intestinal flora imbalance and environmental/household/food molds and toxins. (Sponaugle M.R. Brain Chemistry and Addiction, 2011)

Overactive neuro-chemical addiction leads to alcohol, tranquilizer, and anxiety medication addiction. Histamine levels are especially high in these people, which can be triggered by an imbalance in intestinal flora, where serotonin, taurine and other calming neuro-chemicals are produced. Overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, allergies, molds and toxins from toluene, solvents and benzenes increases histamine levels, which is chemically similar to dopamine. This intraactivity keeps the individual in a state of high anxiety and insomnia. Cravings aromablend is again helpful in balancing the reaction triggered by an imbalanced body chemistry and promotes a sense of calmness. Continuous use of Cravingsover a period of weeks helps to encourage the nervous system to begin healing and rebalancing itself.

Household and environmental toxins, such as molds, release toxins that activate an immune response.   This Cytokin release can lead to the destruction of brain cells. (The Scientist, Sue Griffin: The Role of Inflammation in Alzheimer’s, Sept 2011.) Brain cell destruction has been linked to Alzheimer’s and Multiple Sclerosis, as well as many chronic debilitating illnesses. (Purzcki C.B., Shain, D.H., Fungal Toxins and Multiple Sclerosis, a Compelling Connection, Brain Res Bulletin, April 2010.) Detox is a safe clinically used aromatherapy product used to help eliminate toxins and enzymes affecting nerve tissue. These mold and toxins are prevalent in food supplies. Many people are not genetically equipped to remove industrial and mold toxins. “Addictive Personalities” and chemically sensitive people are especially challenged by these toxins.

Managing addiction due to neuro-chemical imbalances is also affected by hormone imbalances. This is especially prevalent in women. I will describe how to help balance these conditions in upcoming articles.
