Nutmeg, (Myristica fragrans),  has  narcotic, analgesic and aphrodisiac properties. Children and pregnant or nursing mothers should not use nutmeg essential oil. Therapeutically, it increases circulation to the joints and muscles, an excellent oil for arthritis, gout, aches and pain. Most people experience a calming effect, yet Nutmeg is an excellent choice for adrenal insufficiency.  Nutmeg enhances digestion, reducing nausea and flatulence. On a more subtle level, Nutmeg builds blood volume and quality. I apply nutmeg oil directly on spleen acupuncture points, such as the outside tip of the large toe. Dilute 1 drop in 1 cup of water or 1 tablespoon of carrier oil. A little goes along way with this fragrant oil.
Nutmeg yields its essential oil from steam distilled dried seeds. The dried husk, or shell, produces mace. Nutmeg blends well with other spices, such as ginger and  essential oils that enhance circulation, such as Lemongrass.
